David Schwartz has a Master of Science degree in Marine Geology from Moss Landing Marine Labs/San Jose State University and a BS in Geology and Mineralogy from The Ohio State University. He worked for the Columbus Ohio EPA as a Water Quality Technician doing background water quality monitoring and testing. In graduate school his researched focused on the geologic history of Elkhorn Slough, California. His interests are estuarine stratigraphy, micropaleontology, marine geology & tectonics. David taught general earth and marine science courses for three years at Hartnell College in Salinas, California and at San Jose State University before instructing courses at Cabrillo College in 1986. He has taught a variety of field geology courses in coastal and inland California to both college students and the local community for the last 17 years. In 1998 he was the third recipient of the annual Floyd Younger Award for Teaching Excellence at Cabrillo College. David has been working with MATE for several years. His students are involved in many MATE related activities involving a variety of at sea experiences on various research vessels and coastal watershed monitoring and beach profiling using GIS to store, manage and visualize data. His Oceanography 10 students are also involved in various marine related research activities with local high school students. Their research papers on Beach Profiling in the northern Monterey Bay region are being used by the United States Geological Survey. Contact information
