Academic Background:

This innovative approach to marine education and training pobably says more about the college than Mark himself; however, he was promoted to a full instructor in 1977. Mark has held a United States Coast Guard license as a Master of vessels not more than 50 gross tons for the past 22 years. He is a certified Responding to Emergencies and Community CPR Instructor with the American Red Cross. His teaching duties requre proficiency in marine vocational trades such as marlinspike seamanship, fishing gear technology, welding, oxyacetylene cutting and marine repairs. Mark also teaches the Marine Photography course and has attended numerous classes and workshops at such institutions as Rochester Institute of Technology, Rockport College, and the Maine Photography Workshops. To stay abreast of technological chages occurring within marine related fields, he has attended numerous computer and data-acquisition seminars and/or workshops as well as participating on a volunteer basis abouard NOAA vessels conducting marine fisheries research. Mark regularly supervises training cruises aboard the College's own research vessel the R/V Dan Moore.
Personal Interests:
Mark enjoys spending time with his wife Carol and their two sons Alex (11) and Jacob (7). When not rushing to school funtions and/or soccer games they all enjoy the outdoors. Mark has been a certified SCUBA diver for the past 25 years. He enjoys tennis and basketball and manages to stay in reasonable aerobic shape by bicycling on a regular basis. With kayaks, a Jon-boat, and a Hobie-Cat in the yard, a quick excursion to one of the barrer islands is never out of the question. Fishing, hiking, and camping are also family favorites.
