John Karnofel
Industrial and Environmental Technology Departments
Courses taught: Hydraulics, welding, small engine repair, diesel engine repair, safety and OSHA regulations, hazardous materials management, Hazwoper, agriculture mechanics, environmental science, marine science and technology careers, and project construction.

Academic Background: John has a Master's degree in agriculture education. His undergraduate major was Agriculture Mechanics and Agriculture Business. He has a minor in Industrial Mechanics, and is certified to teach Hazardous Waste Management and Hazwoper classes.

Related Experiences: John owned and operated a hydraulic business for 20 years in the Salinas Valley, specializing in log splitters and logging equipment, and building equipment for local ranchers. John also worked as a mechanic for farmers mercantile and an equipment repair service.

John has taught classes in mechanics, safety, welding, and hydraulics throughout the Salinas Valley for 25 years for companies such as: Mann Packing, Balley Fab, Smuckers, City of Salinas, USDA Station, MBARI, City of Watsonville, Department of Health in Monterey, Dole Vegetables, State of California, Salinas Disposal Service, King City High School, and Valley Tank, just to name a few.

Personal Interests: John races and breeds pigeons. He also has a flock of pure white birds that he releases at weddings, marathons, triathlons, and many other special events. John is a triathlete (swimming, running, biking), participating in more than 10 triathlons each year. He likes to exercise and do just about anything that makes him move! He also enjoys camping and fishing (two of his favorite things).
