Sharon Flanagan Academic Background: Undergraduate Zoology degree from Louisiana State University, Master of Arts in Science Teaching from the University of New Orleans, and currently a doctoral candidate in Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Education at Louisiana State University. Related Experience: Sharon had 11 years as an informal educator at the Louisiana Nature and Science Center in New Orleans and as Curator of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Museum in Kenner, Louisiana. She was Project Coordinator for Project CEED (Coastal Education for Economic Development), an industrious project which produced 7 teaching modules. She has authored Poetic Wetlands for the Project CEED and is in press for two additional modules, Honk if you Love the Wetlands, and Pollution Alert! She is also on of the authors of Lessons on the Lake: An Educator's Guide to the Pontchartrain Basin. She has been a member of the Science Department at Nunez Community College since its formation in 1992 where she initially came to teach Louisiana Wetland Ecology. Other teaching duties throughout the years have included Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biology and Human Nutrition. In 1994 she and a colleague designed and implemented the first Environmental Technology degree program in the state of Louisiana. She is Coordinator of the Environmental Technology Program and teaches Introduction to Hazardous Materials and Environmental Health and Safety. Sharon was recently named the first Arts and Sciences Freeport-McMoRan Endowed Professor for her exemplary teaching and contributions to the college. Personal Interests: Sharon has a personal goal of finishing her Ph.D. within the next year. Home Depot has become a new "haunt" with the purchase of a house. When relaxing she can be found wearing hip boots and shouldering a camera in the marshes and swamps of south Louisiana.
