MATE's 1999 Summer Institute for Faculty Development July 28- July 31, 1999 The MATE Center hosted its 1999 Summer Institute in Professional and Curriculum Development July 28 - 31. Math, science, and technology instructors from across the country had the opportunity to experience the technical side of marine industry and operations, interacting with marine technicians at a variety of research and technology facilities in the Monterey Bay region. Instructors from community colleges, four-year universities, and high schools from California, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida participated, each bringing a unique background and set of experiences. Instructors used the information and experiences presented to them during the workshop to develop new and exciting technology-rich, real-world, marine-related activities and problem sets that they can incorporate into their current courses.
