One of the primary goals of the MATE Center is to develop educational resources and opportunities for students interested in marine science and technology. The MATE Center's regional and national employer surveys have made it clear that relevant work experience is one of the most important considerations in hiring new employees. To help prepare students to be competitive and prepared for employment upon graduation, the MATE Center has developed the At-Sea Technical Internship Program. Interns work as marine technicians aboard sea-going research vessels that are part of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) and the United States Coast Guard. Do you want to understand the nitty gritty details of what it is like to be a marine technician? Check out the new Knowledge and Skill Guidelines for Oceanographic Instrumentation Technicians. The MATE Internship Coordinator, Tami Lunsford, is available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the internship program and to help you complete your application. Please do not hesitate to email or call her at tlunsford@marinetech.org or (302) 731-3035. Do you think you might be interested in marine technology as a career? Check out this video to see an interview with marine technicians and a MATE intern about why they chose this field and what their life is like at work.
