Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary At-Sea InternshipLocation: Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary; Morro Bay Full Description: The MATE Intern would provide logistical and scientific support for a variety of at-sea missions for NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS). Research projects include: Towed camera sled and ROV video characterization of the continental shelf, inside and adjacent to MPAs with California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB); Removal of lost fishing gear with MBNMS partners using Phantom HD2 ROV; Trawl Impact study out of Morro Bay in partnership with CSUMB, Nature Conservancy, and Marine Applied Research and Exploration using the ROV Beagle; and Education/Outreach cruise opportunities related to Blue Ocean Film Festival. The internship will involve preparing equipment and vessels for research missions, gaining working knowledge of data acquisition systems, providing deck support for equipment deployment, surveying, and retrieval, and potentially providing some post-processing assistance of collected data. The student will be working primarily from NOAA’s R/V FULMAR, in addition to NOAA’s R4107 and F/V Donna Kathleen with direct guidance from the Vessel Operations Coordinator. Additional opportunities exist to provide topside tech diving support if the applicant is qualified. Requirements:
