INSTRUCTORS AND MENTORS: Welcome to the 2015 registration system! Please read the following instructions and information carefully.
Step 1: Identify which competition class you will enter before proceeding. Visit your regional contest’s web page or contact your regional coordinator to confirm which classes are being offered at your event. You can also see the 2015 General Information for information about each class as well as eligibility requirements or click here.
NOTE: ALL EXPLORER teams register directly with the international competition.
Step 2: You will answer questions about yourself before creating a team. If you are already in Active.com’s registration system, your information will be auto-filled.
NOTE: The registration system considers instructors and mentors “non-participating team members.” In addition, as you complete the information, the system will refer to you as the “team captain.” This is OK! Your team will still need to identify a student to serve as the “company CEO,” but that is not required when registering your team.
Step 3: As you complete information about your team, you will need to create a distinct team name, no matter how many teams you are registering. If you are registering more than one team, you will need to submit separate registration forms.
In addition, you will have the option to set up a password for your team. Students (and additional mentors) will need this password in order to join your team. (See Step 5 below for more information about joining a team.)
Step 4: Payment is credit card ONLY.
For schools that need to set up MATE as a vendor for their credit cards, please use the following information:
Vendor: MATE Center, Monterey Peninsula College
Address: 980 Fremont Street, Monterey, CA 93940 USA
NOTE: Registration fees cannot be refunded or transferred to future years or other teams.
Step 5: Once you submit your registration, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. A link to “manage my team” will be included within the e-mail. Follow that link, sign in using your e-mail address and the password you created for yourself, and use the system to e-mail students (and any additional mentors) an invitation to join your team. Make sure that you use the “Team Invite Request” as your template; Active will fill in the message for you.
If you’ve set up a password to join your team, make sure that you share this password with your students (and any additional mentors). You can add that information to the Team Invite Request or send the password out in a separate e-mail.
All students are required to register by “joining the team.” Additional mentors can register by selecting “additional mentors – join a team.”
NOTE: Students under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to register them and agree to the waivers listed on the registration form. Therefore, if possible, it is recommended that you e-mail the invitation to the parent instead of the student.
Students without Internet access at home can print the waiver pages, ask their parent or guardian to sign and date the waivers, and return them to you, at which point you will need to assist the student through the online process of joining the team. PDFs of waivers are included on each event’s registration page for your convenience. YOU MUST E-MAIL OR SNAIL MAIL COPIES OF ANY SIGNED, HARD COPY WAIVERS TO THE MATE CENTER. There is no need to do this if the waivers are signed electronically through the Active registration system, only if they are returned to you in hard copy. Contact the MATE Center if you have problems or additional questions.
If you are uncertain about how to register or which contest to enter (regional or international), please contact Jill Zande, MATE's Associate Director, at jzande@marinetech.org or (831) 646-3082.
