The SUNY Maritime College's Assistant Waterfront Director of Programs oversees the daily operations of the College's Waterfront Department in accordance with applicable policies, regulations and guidelines. The Assistant Waterfront Director of Programs ensures appropriate management (i.e. processes) to enhance SUNY Maritime College's Waterfront to operate as the best collegiate waterfront in the country, focusing on customer service and safety, while supporting current and long-range curricular, professional and community programs.
POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
ADMINISTRATION (50%)
- Manage the daily operations of the Waterfront which includes but is not limited to intercollegiate and varsity sailing teams, academic departments, waterfront student activities, hosting collegiate and high school regattas, sailing and powerboat courses, clinics, summer camps, and recreational programs
- Supervise safety and operational policies for the Waterfront. Seek to continually improve Standard Operating Procedures
- Represent College at US Sailing, college sailing and other association meetings related to Waterfront programs and activities and to perspective students to promote the College
- Oversee financial integrity and departmental budget
- Support strategic development, fundraising initiatives for Waterfront and College programs including but not limited to Waterfront Cross Functional Team and Waterfront Advisory Committee
- Other duties as assigned
STUDENT ACTIVITIES (15%)
Intercollegiate Sports
- Provide oversight for waterfront activities, including athletic competitions
- Provide coaching and supervision/chaperoning of sailing team at home and away regattas as necessary
- Participate in the hiring and supervision of coaches and maintain a strong program of student waterfront activities, including Intercollegiate Sports and Offshore and dinghy sailing programs
- Oversee the scheduling and completion of competitive sailing events in cooperation with the sailing coach(s)
- Serve as the Waterfront liaison to the Athletic department
Intramural/Recreational Activities
- Proactively develop and improve upon the delivery of a strong program of student waterfront activities
Academic
- Provide academic support, including teaching, as needed
COMMUNITY (15%)
- Oversee the annual schedule of Launch Tender and Safe Powerboat Handling/New York State Boating Safety classes, community sailing, Maritime Adventure Boat Camp, US Sailing/US Powerboat instructor courses, high school and junior sailing association events
FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT/INFRASTRUCTURE (10%)
- Schedule and supervise use and maintenance of waterfront facilities and equipment including College owned and donated boats
- Ensure Waterfront facilities and equipment are properly maintained and operated to support current and long-range goals for educational and other campus programs
SUPPORT (10%)
- Support colleagues, students, faculty and staff as necessary to help them succeed
Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant Waterfront Director of Programs is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.

- Bachelor's degree in a Business related field or related discipline
- Competitive sailing experience at collegiate level or higher, coaching and instructing experience
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience in program development, management and evaluation
- Three years' supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years' experience supervisory or managerial experience at a collegiate-level Waterfront
- US Sailing Level 1, 2 or 3 sailing instructor/coach, Certified Basic Keelboat, Cruising or Bareboat Certified Instructor
- US Sailing/US Powerboat Certified Sport or Cruising Powerboat Instructor
