The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center, an international education center
housed at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey California, is seeking a Marketing and
Communications, and Event Coordinator.
Brief Description
The Marketing, Communications, and Events Coordinator will help the MATE Center to fulfill its
educational mission by creating and implementing a marketing and communications plan
aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. The Coordinator will plan, implement, and
measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives, including new product
launches, national and international events, internal and external communications, social
media strategy, event promotions, public relations, brand initiatives, eCommerce initiatives,
and more. The Coordinator will also assist MATE staff with planning and carrying out events,
such as student robotics competitions and faculty development workshops.
In addition to marketing, MATE is looking for someone with experience in communications,
editorial, advertising, social media, and the web. Event planning experience is a plus. MATE
staff work hard, have fun, and value collaboration and new ideas. The position is a great
opportunity for a skilled marketing professional who can think strategically, establish tactics,
communicate well, implement plans, and is a problem solver at heart.
Familiarity with student competitions, especially robotics competitions, is a big plus.
Compensation
This is a consulting position. Some travel (to exciting locations) is required. All travel expenses
are covered by the MATE Center.

The MATE Center’s mission is to use marine technology to inspire and challenge students to
learn and creatively apply science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to solving real-
world problems in a way that reinforces critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurialism, and
innovation.
About MATE
The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center was established with funding from
the National Science Foundation in 1997. The MATE Center works with community colleges,
universities, secondary schools, research institutions, marine industries, professional societies,
and working professionals to facilitate the development of courses, textbooks, curricula, and
educational programs based upon on workforce research. In addition, MATE provides students
with work experience and helps them to develop workforce-ready attitudes through its
underwater robotics (remotely operated vehicle or ROV) competitions, at-sea internship
program, and SeaMATE - a social enterprise that puts students to work manufacturing ROV kits
for K-12 schools across the country.
Requirements:
Qualifications
? Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in marketing, communications, or related field. (An ideal
candidate would have knowledge of marketing and education, science, and/or technology.)
? 1-2 years’ experience or internship in marketing and communications.
? Experience in setting goals collaboratively, establishing strategies and tactics, and executing
plans.
? Experience with planning and managing events.
? Strong presentation skills (verbal and written).
? Detail-oriented, faster learner and a good multi-tasker.
