Job Description: ? Pilot the ROV, working closely with academic scientists and researchers, during oceanographic research missions aboard the Institute's ship Falkor. ? Assist in the launch, recovery and operation of the ROV system and winch. ? Ensure that the ROV and all systems and subsystems are in complete working order and in compliance with all technical requirements throughout the research cruise period. ? Carry out the dives in accordance with recognized operating procedures in order to perform designated work safely and efficiently. ? Navigate, observe and perform all other duties related to the operation of manipulators and ancillary equipment fitted to the ROV. ? Perform all predive checks. ? Communicate with the ROV Manager or Supervisor on the status of the vehicle buoyancy, special fits or any limitations to the system. ? Communicate with the ROV Manager or Supervisor immediately at completion of the dives any faults or deficiencies encountered during the period of the dive. ? Complete the dive log for all dives. ? Maintain and repair the ROV system and subsystems under the supervision of the ROV Manager or Supervisor. ? Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
Experience and Skill Level Requirements: ? Meet or exceed the ROV Technician Job Description as defined in MATE Knowledge an d Skill Guidelines for Marine Science and Technology Volume 3 - ROV Technicians http://www.marinetech.org/files/marine/files/Workforce/KSG_ROV%20techFINAL.pdf ? Minimum three years working offshore as an ROV Pilot Technician piloting and maintaining ROVs within the academic science research ? ROV control, navigation and propulsion systems ? Electrical power distribution systems, high voltage transformers and hydraulic motors / pumps / valves ? Use of pH probes, flow meters, methane sensors, bathythermographs, sediment coring, and acoustic positioning systems ? Experience in fiber optic splicing ? Use of constant tension and active heave compensating winches ? Appropriate trade experience and relevant degree/qualification ? Previous technical experience in the ROV industry (academic research or commercial) Certifications and Qualifications : ? Competence as an ROV Pilot Technician Grade l (IMCA C005) or equivalent ? Up-to-date IMCA Personnel ROV Logbook or equivalent ? Ability to work in the United States General Requirements for all Crewmembers: ? Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training certificate ? Valid STCW Persons with Designated Security Duties certificate ? Valid medical fitness certificate (ENG1 or equivalent) ? Good knowledge of the English language ? US Visa (B1), US Citizen or Canadian Citizen
