Oceanographic Field Technician

Description:
Will assist with buoy maintenance and operations such as mechanical repair, electrical troubleshooting, mooring and bridle servicing, launch and recovery operations, both on and off the water. Will calibrate oceanographic and meteorological sensors associated with the buoys. Will maintain the calibration lab, equipment and office work space in an orderly, efficient and safe condition; provide laboratory supply acquisition and field gear maintenance and construction; and support data management including data entry and record keeping and responding to queries for information on operations and results of lab and field work. Will also assist with reporting and manuscript preparation.
Requirements:
Experience in oceanographic, hydrographic, and/or ecological field research. Must have basic skills in database management, spreadsheet maintenance, and word processing. Must be adept at problem-solving and conceptualising unique solutions to complex problems. Must be able to lift, haul, and otherwise manipulate up to 50lbs of equipment including, but not limited to sonar, mooring hardware, instrumentation, and vessel-associated equipment on land and onboard vessels in operation. Small boat operations skills: must have or be able to meet qualifications for NOAA Small Boat Program Class I vessel operator (http://www.omao.noaa.gov/learn/small-boat-program/resources/training). Experience trailering small boats at least 20 feet in length, including facility manoeuvring in launch and recovery operations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
