The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications for multiple non-tenure track positions of Faculty Associate - Research in the Department of Information Sciences (IS). While the search is broad, we are especially interested in candidates with an interest and or experience in emerging areas of robotics, autonomous systems, data collection, analysis and mining, machine learning, collaborative learning, and the computational simulation of information and organization environments.
The mission of the Department of Information Sciences (IS) at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, is to provide in-residence graduate education, as well as a continuum of career-long learning opportunities, in support of defense requirements in the areas of information sciences, systems, and operations. The Department maintains an internationally respected research program in selected areas of information sciences, systems, and operations, and has the capability of developing research programs in additional areas of information sciences that are required to support graduate education.. Our students are primarily military officers seeking Master’s degrees in defense-oriented IS topics. We also have a small Ph.D. program. Our students are capable, mature, and hard working. Our research addresses important and challenging problems in national security and we foster close collaborations with US Navy and Department of Defense sponsors, as well as other universities. Requirements:
The primary duties associated with this position will be to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and senior researchers in the management and promotion of the multi-institutional semi-structured learning environments related to the Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) and Consortium for Robotics and Unmanned Systems Education and Research (CRUSER). These duties may include assisting student thesis work; provision of analytic advice and reports to clients, both on campus and off-campus; participation in grant and contract proposal writing, as required; assisting with daily operations; participation in national conferences; participation in exchange of ideas with other established research and engineering centers; and regularly reporting on JIFX/CRUSER activities. Incumbents with masters degrees may be expected to assist the Principal Investigator with the teaching of the related courses and of running laboratory sections related to field experimentation. Applicants with field experience in military or humanitarian assistance experiments/operations will be preferred.
Minimum qualifications:
- Have a B.S. or B.A. in Information Sciences, Computer Sciences, Environmental Systems, Urban Planning/Design or a related discipline for AD-01 positions.
- Have a Master’s degree in Information Sciences, Computer Sciences or a related discipline for AD-03 positions.
- Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite.
- Eligible to hold a DoD security clearance.
