Description:
SoundWaters has an immediate opening for an Environmental Educator to teach environmental science education programs. SoundWaters mission is to protect Long Island Sound through education.
We are looking for a talented Outdoor Educator to join the enthusiastic and creative team at our Coastal Education Center in Stamford, CT. The successful candidate will develop and implement hands-on science education and field-based programs; coordinate program logistics and maintain aquarium and laboratory, working with a team of four other Educators. This position is a full-time, seasonal position.
Responsibilities:
- Teach environmental education programs solo and in team teaching situations
- Assist in program coordination and promotion
- Keep informed about current Long Island Sound and other environmental issues
- Manage aquarium; perform maintenance and upkeep of systems
- Perform research & monitoring activities including Horseshoe Crab migration and Diamond Back Terrapin population
- Support the operations of the SoundWaters Center for Environmental Education, feeding aquaria, maintaining the learning lab classroom and exhibits, etc., as needed
Requirements:
- Degree in Education, Biology, Resources management, or environmental disciplines
- Teaching experience required-leading outdoor and classroom educational programs and implementing age-appropriate curricula; familiarity with experiential education
- Demonstrated teamwork and flexibility
- Motivated, self-starter who is detail-oriented; takes initiative
- Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities;
- Additional certifications (sailing, lifeguard, CPR, First Aid etc.) a plus
