Description:
Purpose To direct, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve operations and management including administrative, research, stewardship/outreach, and education activities at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas. Essential Functions Manage the Reserve operation on a day-to-day basis, prepare grant applications, proposals, prepare and manage budgets, reports, and maintain necessary records. Supervise Reserve staff members. Represent MSI and the Reserve and its policies at public meetings and hearings. Coordinate with other program managers on activities that might affect the Reserve. Monitor day-to-day operation of the Reserve and progress of research/monitoring, stewardship, and education plans. Facilitate meetings of the reserve advisory board (RAB), research/monitoring, stewardship and education committees. Oversee facilities development, site selection and changes in Reserve boundaries with advice from RAB and other advisory committees. Prepare semi-annual and annual reports and work plans for NOAA and other possible sources of funding. Direct and coordinate the NOAA on any changes in the Reserve management plan. Work with NOAA in the development of national policy for the National Estuarine Research Reserve. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Requirements:
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in a science related field. A combination of three years of experience administering or coordinating a program. Experience managing staff and multiple projects. Grant writing, grant management, and budget management experience. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse campus community. Familiarity with relevant federal agencies (NOAA, USFWS), state agencies (TGLO, TPWD, TxDOT) and local agencies (ACND, CBBEP, TNC). Experience in public speaking. Knowledge of local and national issues and strategies affecting coastal resources. Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications In addition to the required qualifications, we prefer a Master's degree in a science related field. Extensive experience in research, resource management, or conservation. Demonstration of competencies: motivating others, planning work for others, managing conflict, managing and measuring work, managing diversity and complying with policies and procedures.
