Description:
California State University, Monterey Bay is now hiring for a grant funded STEM Outreach Coordinator position at California State University, Monterey Bay. The position will develop outreach materials for our NSF Ocean Science REU program and our Undergradaute Research Opportunities Center. The position will also be responsible for developing outreach strategies to our local community colleges. Experience working with multicultural communities and using social media a plus.
The Outreach Coordinator, under the general supervision of UROC's Curriculum Associate, is responsible for managing: 1) outreach efforts with our community college partner, Hartnell College; 2) administrative, logistical, and marketing efforts for CSUMB's newly-funded National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program (http:/reu.csumb.edu); and 3) first and second year outreach efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Hartnell College Outreach (50% time)
- Serve as a point of contact for potential Hartnell College transfer students.
- Organize campus tours of CSUMB, field trips for Hartnell College and CSUMB students, and CSUMB faculty lectures at Hartnell College.
- Lead the research poster development session for Hartnell College's Internship course, and assist with other relevant sessions as needed.
- Develop undergraduate research, transfer, and graduate school preparation materials targeted at community college students.
REU Administration (25% time)
- Develop and distribute marketing material that engages diverse student audiences interested in Ocean Science educational and career pathways.
- Organize student recruitment efforts.
- Create a vibrant online presence (including social media) and website.
- Oversee the online application system and respond to student inquiries.
- Organize logistics, housing, and transportation for REU participants and mentors.
- Organize workshops, field trips, and events.
First and Second year Outreach (25%)
- Lead outreach and recruitment efforts targeting first and second year students
- Liaise with student clubs and campus programs, such as Living Learning Communities, that serve first and second year students.
- Lead UROC's Peer-to-Peer student mentoring program.
- Assist with the recruitment and placement of students in undergraduate research positions.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Curriculum Associate.
- Promote and maintain an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service.
- Develop and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The monthly salary for this position is: $3,555.60. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b), 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits. Corporation positions are at-will employment.

Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, and marketing and publishing software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in the sciences, science education, or related field AND two years of progressively responsible work in outreach, program management, or education.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED:
Demonstrated experience that clearly provides evidence of the knowledge and skills required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements identified above are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Must have own transportation, valid driver's license and insurance. Ability to complete web-based training in defensive driving. Must continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment.
