The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is taking applications for the position of Coastal Training Program Coordinator for the Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve (OWC NERR.), located in Huron, Ohio, along the shore of Lake Erie. Through the Coastal Training Program (CTP), OWC NERR addresses critical coastal resource management issues by providing training and technical assistance to professional decision makers, such as government officials, land planners, developers and community groups, whose professional choices impact coastal resources. CTP Coordinator Duties:
The CTP Coordinator plans, develops and coordinates training events and technical assistance activities for coastal decision-maker audiences in cooperation with partnering agencies, primarily in the nine coastal counties adjacent to Lake Erie. Specific duties include:
· Develop, market, and implement training activities and provide relevant materials for coastal decision-maker audiences to address priority coastal environmental issues.
· Provide or facilitate technical assistance for decision-maker audiences. Technical assistance may involve any small group interaction in the form of ordinance and development plan reviews, community environmental assessments, or customized training on specialized subjects.
· Develop, administer and analyze periodic audience needs assessments and incorporate the results into program planning efforts.
· Coordinate program evaluation and implementation of system-wide CTP performance measures and apply results to improve the program.
· Serve as staff resource to an OWC NERR Coastal Training Program Executive Board and other relevant watershed, regional, or state-wide coordinating bodies.
· Contribute to annual action plans and performance reports for the OWC NERR, prepare program summaries and presentations for regularly scheduled meetings of the OWC NERR Advisory Council, and participate in NERR CTP activities at state, regional, and national levels including participation in NERR System-wide integrated workgroups, NERRS Annual Meetings, and NERRS CTP meetings.
Minimum qualifications (wildlife communication specialist):
Completion of undergraduate core program in wildlife education or fish &/or wildlife management; 6 mos. training or 6 months experience in wildlife education or fish &/or wildlife management; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relation; or 24 months training or 24 months experience in wildlife education or fish &/or wildlife management; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations; or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Desired skills and experience:
Knowledge and experience in coastal ecosystems and coastal management or policy is important. Experience in education program development, implementation, evaluation and administration is desired. Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to communicate effectively with professional and other adult audiences one-on-one and in small and large group settings. Familiarity with planning and regulatory processes at the local level, and facilitation experience is highly desirable. Previous experience with database management and website design and maintenance is a plus.
