Get to know the ins and outs of working in an aquarium at one of the world's most well -known and reputable institutions-The New England Aquarium! We are currently seeking internship candidates for our January Term internships that span a period of four weeks and 125 hours. These internships start as early as mid-December and end as late as early-February (based on candidate weekly availability and start date). Our interns are placed in galleries across the Aquarium where they work alongside staff and volunteers to provide daily husbandry to animals from around the world. Galleries and animals include: • Cold Marine - Octopus, goosefish, many invertebrates, and more • Freshwater - Anaconda, piranha, electric eel, salmon, trout, and other North American animals • Temperate - Sea Dragons, Goliath Groupers, our ancient fishes exhibit, among others • Tropical - Pacific Reef Community exhibit with fishes including clown fish, palette surgeonfish, and more • West Wing - This exhibit space includes The Trust Family Foundation Shark and Ray Touch Tank and multiple mesmerizing jellies exhibits • Wet Lab and Edge of the Sea - This team works with our educational outreach animals, jelly propagation lab, and Edge of the Sea Touch Tank animals (crabs, lobsters, flounders, sea stars, and more) Responsibilities include daily food preparation, feeding, cleaning, and tasks related to special projects within the department.
Requirements:
We are seeking candidates with all levels of marine and animal knowledge, from those who are just starting out and have a passion to those pursuing careers working with wildlife.
