Description:
As an Environmental Education Intern during the Summer Season, help youth from throughout Alaska and the country connect with the ecosystems of Kachemak Bay, become better stewards, and develop a love for the natural world. The EE intern will work with the Lead Environmental Educator and Peterson Bay Field Station naturalists to lead educational and outdoor experiences for groups of all ages. Duties include instruction, leading beach and forest hikes, assisting with arrangements for transportation and food, and performing routine maintenance at the Field Station facility. Camps and overnight programs provide ample opportunities for creativity and flexibility. Field sites feature rocky intertidal areas of outstanding diversity, a coastal forest trail system, and salt and freshwater wetlands.
Requirements:
Position requires knowledge of basic intertidal, marine, and forest ecology; some experience with children or youth; good physical condition; enthusiasm, flexibility, and creativity; and ability to live and work in a residential setting with youth groups and other staff. Experience in Alaska or similar field programs preferred.
