Salary Range: Hourly rate of $10.00 paid semi-monthly on 15th and last day of month
Description: Coordinate a variety of outdoor summer activities for children, ages 5 to 13, during day-long summer camps which focus on different marine environments. Help with the creation of hands-on programs and teach environmental concepts through field exploration and engaging activities to groups of up to 12 campers per day during the months of July and August. Acquire a working knowledge of all of HGLC’s marine and aquaculture systems and programs in order to assist
staff in performing additional duties throughout the center and providing information to the general public. Work performed under limited supervision.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
• Research and develop new program activities on a variety of marine-related topics for the current
year’s summer program offerings.
• Instruct day-long summer camp programs,
• Continue with and establish new working relationships with local residents who have offered their
property as field sites for various HGLC summer programs.
• Ensure that all supplies necessary for summer programs are acquired, organized, and maintained
in good working order.
• Maintain visibility and strengthen the image of the Herring Gut Learning Center by promoting
HGLC’s programs through various public activities, such as providing tours of the facility and
participation in outreach at fairs and other community events.
• Manage registration, medical and liability forms, database and finances for the summer program.
• Assist with the feeding and maintenance of HGLC’s live animal collections and aquaculture
systems.

Requirements:
• Pursuing degree in environmental education/marine biology or a related field; or equivalent training
and knowledge, preferably with teaching experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups of both children and adults.
• Sincere concern for the environment.
• Strong writing, organizational, problem solving, teaching, and computer skills.
• Willingness to work irregular hours and several weekends during the summer.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team player.
• Ability to work outside and perform basic maintenance tasks that require lifting.
• Valid drivers license
