Where: The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is a public, non-profit marine education facility located in Fort Worden State Park, Washington. Our two buildings house a small hands-on Marine Exhibit with local near-shore animals and plants, a Natural History Exhibit featuring shorelines, past and present, a citizen science research Discovery Lab and two fully equipped classrooms. When: 12 or 20 week positions beginning June 14th 2010 Full time including most weekends.
Description:
• Lead hands-on education programs for the general public in marine science and natural history
• Assist with maintaining tanks, caring for animals and general upkeep of exhibits
• Work with the volunteer docent team to interpret exhibits for the public
• Serve as educational staff for Marine Science Summer Camps
• Work in our gift shop
• Receive on-site training in natural history, marine biology, geology, shoreline ecology and interpretation techniques
• Receive training in cold water marine husbandry
Stipend: 20 week position- $2750 stipend, 12 week position-$1750 Stipend. Rustic housing provided
Qualifications:
• Ability or willingness to work with people of all ages and from all walks of life
• Marine science and natural history background
• Energetic, self motivated and willing to learn
• An independent and team worker
• Well organized
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
