Oregon Sea Grant Announces new Natural Resource Fellowships. Oregon Sea Grant and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife have partnered to create two postgraduate fellowship opportunities. The purpose is to provide two postgraduates with one year of technical work experience and training while contributing to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife mission to protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations. Both Fellowships are located in Newport, OR.
1. Marine Fisheries Focus - Reconstruction of historical rockfish catch in Oregon and improving consistency between stock assessments. Any Ph.D. or Master’s level graduating student or recent graduate who will have completed a degree in fisheries, resource management, statistics, or other related field is eligible. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of fisheries management, modeling, data analysis, and sampling design. Postgraduates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applications due January 29, 2010.
2. Marine Habitat Focus - Assessment of epibenthic marine habitats using video data to enhance our understanding of the ecology of Oregon’s reefs for conservation and resource management purposes. Any Ph.D. or Master’s level graduating student or recent graduate who will have completed a degree in marine ecology, zoology, fisheries, resource management, or other related field is eligible. Applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to learn or knowledge of marine epibenthic species and ecology, invertebrate taxonomy, relational databases, GIS, advanced statistical analysis, and video editing software. Postgraduates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applications due March 1, 2010.
