  • NEW!  Shipping information update

Transportation instructions will be posted shortly.

Note:  To help ensure your and your vehicle’s ease of entry into Canada, your team will be provided with a letter from the Canadian Border Services Agency as well as a letter from the MATE Center detailing the competition and the vehicles that you are shipping/transporting.  Your team should present these letters to your shipping courier and/or customs agent.

If shipping your vehicle, please note that all major shipping couriers (e.g. FedEx, UPS) can function as customs brokers and will do the necessary processing and charge for this service.  The letters mentioned above, along with a detailed list of the contents of your shipping package, will help your courier with this process.  (The letters will also help as your team members make their way through Canadian customs.)  Teams from countries OTHER THAN CANADA AND THE U.S. may want to consider a carnet (see www.chamber.ca/article.asp?id=261).  These teams should investigate this with their local customs agents.

If transporting your vehicle with your team, please make sure to have copies of the letters with you as you proceed through customs.

Note:  Your team should designate ONE member (e.g. the instructor) as the individual who takes responsibility for the vehicle, regardless of whether you shipped it via courier or are traveling with it as checked luggage.  If the vehicle is traveling as several pieces of checked luggage, it may be necessary to designate more than one team member to take responsibility.

  • HOLD HARMLESS
  • MEDIA RELEASE
  • Airport information

The airport code for St. John’s International Airport is YYT.

Do NOT get confused and book a ticket to Saint John, NB.  That is in a different province and there is no ROV competition there on that weekend.  That mistake is made from time to time, so beware.

  • Passport information for U.S. travelers

Note:  Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.  See New Requirements for Travelers

  • Canadian Border Services Agency Declaration Card

Please review and familiarize yourself with this declaration card.  Each traveler (or, if multiple family members are traveling together, one family member) must complete this card and submit it to the Canadian agent as he or she proceeds through customs.  Notes (yellow note tags) are inserted to help with several of the questions.

Note:  Regardless of whether you have shipped your vehicle via courier or are traveling with it as checked luggage, your team should choose ONE member (e.g. the instructor) who claims either the shipment or the checked luggage on his or her declaration card.  If your vehicle is traveling as checked luggage in multiple containers, it may be necessary to choose more than one team member.

  • U.S. Customs Declaration Form (for teams returning to the U.S.)

Please review and familiarize yourself with this declaration card.  Each traveler (or, if multiple family members are traveling together, one family member) must complete this card and submit it to the U.S. agent as he or she proceeds through customs.

  • Hotels in St. John’s

  • Family members and other non-competing individuals traveling with the team are welcome to stay in the dormitories at Memorial University or at one of the hotels or bed and breakfasts in St. John’s.

  • Meals for student team members and instructors

  • This form must be completed and returned to the MATE Center at jzande@marinetech.org no later than May 31st, 2007.

See Housing at Memorial University for information about purchasing breakfast (and/or other meals) at the university dinning hall.  Requests for meals at the university dining hall must be submitted (submit only ONE request per team) to Ms. Thelma Careen via e-mail (chartwells@munhousing.ca) or fax (709-737-2580) no later than May 18th, 2007.

  • Shuttle services

Shuttle bus services will be provided to/from the dormitories from/to the competition venues.  More information about shuttle services, including a detailed shuttle schedule, will be available closer to the event.

You are responsible for transportation from/to the airport to/from the university.  Taxis are recommended; they are always readily available and the fare to the university is a flat rate independent of the number of passengers.

  • Hardware and electronics stores in St. John's

Note:  Transportation to these locations will be provided, as the need arises, during the competition event.
