(IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a science and technical company supporting U.S. Federal Government, located in Rockville, Maryland is currently seeking to hire a Support Scientist to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semioperational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. This task is to support the Suomi NPP/JPSS active fire product development and proving ground activities.

General Requirements/Duties: This position provides support to ensure continued operation of the IDPS Suomi NPP code and the transition of the Jl replacement code into NOAA operations. Major activities under product development include fine-tuning the algorithm parameters for optimization, algorithm and product evaluation and maintenance, and system engineering. The Suomi NPP/JPSS active fire proving ground activities include generation of a VIIRS Active Fire operational demonstration product, product reformatting, data analysis and distribution. This position also requires webbased dissemination of VIIRS fire and aerosol products, upgrading the web page to an enhanced version, and generating software plug-in tools to port the VIIRS fire and aerosol products to different platforms, specifically AWIPS-II system used by the National Weather Service. Qualifications: ? College degree in related science field, experience in environmental remote sensing ? Familiar with techniques for satellite-based measurements and retrieval of fire characteristics ? Knowledge and experience in advanced scientific programming and numerical analyses ? Expertise in understanding satellite data formats, their sources, and access protocols. ? Sound communication skills and proven ability to work well in a team environment ? Demonstrated coding experience C, C++, Fortran and IDL programming languages. ? Demonstrated experience with Linux system, in particular writing shell scripts, cron jobs, perl scripts, and Java programming.
