PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Camp SEA Lab operates under the University Corporation @ CSUMB and has close ties to several Monterey
Bay area universities and institutions. Camp SEA Lab is governed by the University Corporation at Monterey
Bay and an Advisory Board of Directors comprised of members from collaborating institutions.
Camp SEA Lab’s mission is to foster lifelong excitement, scientific understanding, and stewardship of our
coasts and ocean. The exceptional environment of the Monterey Bay region, and a host of exemplary marine
science and education institutions make it a perfect setting for a science camp program focused on ocean and
coastal resources.
Camp SEA Lab programs are designed for youth ages 8-17. Spring and summer programs are delivered in a
multi-day format as residential or day program experiences. All Camp SEA Lab staff are engaged in the
development and implementation of a safe, educational, and fun program in marine science.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The salary for this position is $5,981-$6,250 per month, commensurate with education and experience. This is
an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b),
13 paid holidays per year and other benefits. University Corporation positions are "at-will" employment.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable
individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Typical office environment with standard
equipment and tasks. Position is required to work at a computer/video display terminal and desk for extended
periods of time. May require travel between campus office and field or partner locations. Periodically work
outdoors in variable weather conditions and perform some strenuous activity. This position also requires
sitting, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, talking and using manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination. Ability
to lift 40-50 lbs. Must also be able to traverse a wide range of habitats and outdoor sites in variable weather
conditions and walk at least three miles of rough terrain.

Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Under the general direction of the CSUMB/Camp SEA Lab Faculty Principle Investigator, the Managing
Director will work on a variety of tasks related to the development of the Camp SEA Lab vision and programs.
Primary responsibilities include:
! Implementation and updating of the organization’s strategic plan; assisting in the development of the
Camp SEA Lab experience; soliciting and maintaining partnerships with CSUMB Marine Science
Program community to support mission;
! Writing and management of grant proposals, assisting in the establishment and maintenance of Camp
SEA Lab’s organizational structure; manage relationships with current and future funders through
grant reports, letters of support and budget development;
! Overseeing and managing overall operating budget, work with senior staff to develop program budgets
and identify and track fiscal targets;
! Creating, managing and administering Camp SEA Lab annual budget in conjunction with University
Corporation accounting; manage grant and non-grant funds appropriately;
! Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising senior staff, consultants and volunteers/interns;
! Evaluating and alignment of Camp SEA Lab’s overall programs with strategic plan; conduct semi-
annual evaluations of senior staff for job performance; Ensures that organizational goals and objectives
are accomplished in a timely and thorough manner;
! Facilitating and overseeing program evaluation, and prepare evaluation instruments and reports;
! Organizing and facilitating communication and monthly Friends of Camp SEA Lab Board and
committee meetings, including arranging meeting space, developing agendas, preparation of handouts,
and follow-up on action items; identify, recruit and orient Board members as needed;
! Overseeing the development and implementation of Camp SEA Lab programs; work with senior staff
to develop annual master calendar of programs, workshops, activities, and special events;
! Supervising the maintenance of Camp SEA Lab’s CRM database that includes participants, donors,
and program contacts;
! Developing and implementing marketing plan, evaluate when appropriate; maintaining public
relations; and development of marketing and outreach materials;
! Working with program staff to develop risk management plan for Camp SEA Lab programs;
coordinate with University Corporation risk management to ensure safety of participants; supervise
safety training and backgrounds checks for staff; ensure all risk management and insurance conditions
and requirements for Camp SEA Lab programs are met; facilitate annual accreditation through
American Camp Association;
! Establishing and fostering community partnerships; maintaining public relations; and development of
marketing and outreach materials;
! Producing materials and delivering presentations about Camp SEA Lab that promotes the mission and
programs in the community;
! Developing and maintaining contacts with media; write regular press releases; coordinate with
University public relations offices to enhance public awareness of Camp SEA Lab programs;
! Coordinating special events such as fundraisers and annual meetings with Board members.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of fundamental program management systems and methodologies including record
keeping, correspondence, communications, reporting, and technical writing. Thorough ability to develop,
manage, and efficiently comply with complex schedules and timelines. Ability to organize, prioritize, and
efficiently accomplish a variety of administrative tasks. Ability to anticipate administrative needs and to revise
plans accordingly to evolving and complex circumstances. Thorough knowledge of English grammar,
spelling, and punctuation. Thorough knowledge of budget and accounts management. Ability to learn,
interpret, and apply a variety of polices and procedures even in circumstances not specifically described within
available guidelines. Ability to plan, schedule and supervise the work of others and to conduct staff
evaluations.
Must be able to work independently and to take direction. Must be able to collaborate respectfully within the
program staff structure and within community settings. Must posses ability and skill in maintaining
communications with a variety of individuals and entities. Must be able to manage many projects
simultaneously. Must have knowledge of basic research and development methods and an ability to
collaborate within a team setting to develop new ideas. Proficiency in basic office management systems,
computer skills for financial management and document creation. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office
applications and Google platforms. Ability to establish new and maintain existing relationships with staff,
faculty, students, university partners, and community partners. Must posses skills in community relations
applicable in a variety of settings with a variety of constituencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or similar related field AND a minimum of three
years of combined experience in office administration, program coordination and/or management, and
community relations. A Master’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
Background in marine science education, grant writing, and youth programs required. Additional specialized
experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities
shown above may be considered for the required work experience.
Special Condition(s) of Employment:
! Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the
knowledge and abilities identified above.
! Must have own transportation to and from work and Camp SEA Lab events and be available for some
evening and weekends on occasions when deadlines must be met or important meetings must be
attended. Ability to complete web-based training in Defensive Driving. Must continue to meet the
established driving standards as a condition of employment.
! NOTE: “A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily
before any candidate can be offered a position with the University Corporation. Failure to satisfactorily
complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued
employment of current University Corporation employees who apply for the position.
! Must pass a National Registered Sex Offender check.
! The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse
and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive
Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
! Possess valid First Aid and CPR certification throughout duration of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s Degree preferred. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM
databases. Demonstrated experience with grant administration and the non-profit sector. Demonstrated
understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect,
collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional
excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community
services; demonstrated technical literacy. Working knowledge of the American Camp Association
