Description:
Technical position that supports ORCA’s field activities and Kilroy real-time
monitoring system. Position is responsible for collecting manual and electronic
water, ecological, and/or biological samples, maintaining electronic sampling
equipment, the upkeep of sampling gear, and safe water operations. In addition,
this position is responsible for critically observing and reporting field conditions
which could affect the water quality of the sampling site; calibrating, maintaining
and repairing related field instrumentation and equipment; obtaining coordinates of
monitoring sites using GPS and software; performing support duties; and other
duties as assigned. Candidate also needs to possess good teamwork,
communication and writing skills, and have strong experience in small boat
operation and trailering.
One position to be filled in Ft. Pierce area with occasional travel to the Melbourne
field office required.
Requirements:
Employment Guidelines
Typically has Bachelor's Degree in Natural or Physical Science, Engineering, or
related field and at least four (4) years’ experience in scientific support, preferably
in water quality sample collection, the use of automatic samplers and multi-
parameter water quality instruments; and the use of a PC and software.
Experience operating and sampling from boat is preferred.
License
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Candidate must be capable of performing fieldwork under hot, humid and wet
conditions in areas occupied by animals such as alligators, snakes, and
stinging/biting insects.
Candidates must be able to:
-Operate a boat 26’ or less in length
-Work a 40+ hour week
-Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
-Swim
-Trailer water vessels for distances that can exceed 50 miles
