SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Department of Oceanography, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
Responsible for processing physical oceanographic data using existing software. Produces data quality evaluation plots as necessary. Generates scripts and programs and uses existing programs (e.g., Matlab) to produce graphics and tables of scientific data. Develops and maintains project website services integrated with scientific databases. Maintains and archives web deliverable oceanographic data sets. Implements web tools to provide data access and dynamic content. Maintains complete documentation of all tasks and procedures. Maintains and updates project websites and Wikis and improves their appearance and accessibility. Provides computer administration support for Personal Computer (PC) workstations. Maintains backups and administers web servers. Troubleshoots computer and software issues as needed. With Principal Investigator (PI) and the SOEST Research Computing Facility (RCF), implements security and safe practices for group use of computers. Works with PI, RCF, and Marine Research Associate V to manage computer system and data disaster recovery as necessary. Participates in oceanographic research cruises and works with scientific staff, Electronics Technician, and other cruise participants in performing the acquisition of data at sea as designated by research protocols. Performs preparation and loading/unloading of instruments and gear for oceanographic research expeditions. Supervises student assistants as necessary.
