Description:
Purpose
To conduct hands on educational cruises for visiting class groups of all ages as well as teach a variety of other marine education programs, develop new educational programs and activities aligned to state and national standards, help develop and teach professional development workshops for teachers.
Essential Functions
Serve as educator on educational cruises for the visiting class program. Safely operate equipment and order replacement supplies as needed. Teach programs at a variety of venues including the Wetlands Education Center, the Bay Education Center and outreach programs as necessary. Develop new programs and activities aligned to state and national standards. Develop new educational programs for all grade levels aligned to state and national standards. Represent the Reserve and UTMSI at various conferences, meetings and workshops. Network with local, regional and national marine education professionals. Operate small boats, and UTMSI vehicles, collect different types of organisms for display and educational purposes. Assist with developing and writing grant proposals. Perform various duties related to the Visitors Center, including opening and closing exhibit areas, monitoring exhibit use and leading tours.

Requirements:
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field, and experience in formal or informal teaching, including ability to develop activities and lessons for K-12 students. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Marine Science, Biology or other scientific-relevant natural sciences. Experience in formal or informal teaching, including ability to develop activities and lessons for K-12 students. Experience operating small boats. Knowledge of local ecosystems, marine flora and fauna, and of exhibit and display development. Ability to lift heavy objects, operate winches and shipboard sampling gear. Excellent communication skills. Fluency in Spanish language a plus.
