Description:
Duties: ? Assist with performing research and data compilation for mapping information related to recreational and commercial fishing, human use activities, benthic and intertidal habitats, regulatory boundaries and ecological monitoring data. ? Assist with cartographic production of static and web map products. ? Assist with maintenance of Department databases, metadata, websites and ftp sites. ? Assist with general lab maintenance (e.g. setting up workstations or ordering and stocking supplies). ? Assist with seasonal (June - October) subtidal SCUBA surveys of marine protected area and reference site ecosystem
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: ? A passion for California's marine ecosystem health ? Basic knowledge of GIS fundamentals and a familiarity with ESRI software (ArcGIS 10.2.x) ? Willingness to work hours at a computer ? Two years of college with 10 semester units in marine science or other natural resource related studies ? Good communication skills ? AAUS scientific diver certification ? Possession of a valid California driver's license Desired Knowledge and Abilities: ? Comprehension of fish and wildlife science and conservation practices ? Familiarity with ecological and/or fisheries management principles ? PISCO or Reef Check subtidal monitoring protocols ? Good writing skills ? Word processing and data entry skills ? Good organizational skills and ability to keep accurate records ? Use of Microsoft Access databases
