The University of Delaware College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, and the Delaware Sea Grant College Program are hiring a digital outreach specialist to manage its web and social media presence, produce high-quality multimedia pieces for public outreach, and seek new ways to engage people throughout the state. Requirements:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
- Coordinate the development and implementation of a digital education program to enhance targeted audiences’ and the general public’s understanding of science and environmental topics.
- Develop, coordinate, and/or implement the overall concepts and content of electronic outreach efforts. Products include multimedia integrated exhibits, multimedia productions (e.g., videos, podcasts), social media sites, e-newsletters, websites and web versions of printed materials. Solicit faculty and administrative input. Write and edit text in editorial style appropriate to intended audience. Work closely with graphic designer, writer, and production coordinator to integrate graphics and textual elements, set production schedule, meet deadlines, and review proofs. Conduct and interpret periodic audience surveys.
- Research, design, and support comprehensive online multimedia, websites, and interactive displays, to include feature writing, interviewing faculty and staff, and capturing/editing still images and digital video and audio clips. Verify compliance with University standards and practices.
- Collaborate with Information Technology staff on the development and maintenance of college and Sea Grant websites.
- With the Director and other members of EPEO as appropriate, develop and present workshops for CEOE faculty, graduate students and staff on techniques and best practices for promoting their work with digital media and engaging with colleagues, peers at other institutions, students and prospective students. Provide support to faculty, graduate students and staff who need help updating webpages or digital media, while building their capability to make further changes independently.
- Establish short- and long- range objectives and develop strategic and technical plans for implementing special online outreach and education projects/programs. Write, edit, and train staff to proofread site. Track and report on site metrics. Work with IT staff and web developers to troubleshoot issues.
- Implement social media presence for the college and Sea Grant in collaboration with Environmental Public Education colleagues. Think strategically and apply market techniques to increase visibility, boost traffic, engage with constituents, and measure impact of efforts. Educate team to apply newest social media trends (platforms include but are not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).
- Ensure that all digital outreach efforts and products meet University and EPEO standards for quality and audience comprehension.
- Collaborate with environmental educators to identify and implement digital outreach opportunities.
- Produce multimedia displays and audiovisuals for college and/or Sea Grant use. Write/edit text or script; procure visuals, music, narration; obtain necessary copyright permissions and/or record new video/photos and interview sources as appropriate; coordinate production; produce videos and podcasts; set up and market final product.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements in the outreach, publications, multimedia, exhibit, social media, and web development arenas.
- Make recommendations for online program enhancements; lead testing and implementation of modifications and enhancements.
- Represent the college and Delaware Sea Grant at events through interacting with the public, taking photos and posting to social media. Interact with other programs in the national Sea Grant network and other UD departments.
- Collaborate with the EPEO Director to develop competitive proposals and assist in securing independent project funding; prepare budgets and applicable internal and external reports.
- Supervise college work study and/or miscellaneous wage personnel as needed.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
