Marine Mammal Naturalist

Discovery Cube’s Ocean Quest, located in the Fun Zone in Newport Beach, is recruiting a marine mammal naturalist to support a partnership with Newport Whales, June 3-Sept. 4. The naturalist will deliver a 30-minute pre-whale watch program (with 15 minute interactive/Q&A prior to presentation) at 9:00am, 12:00pm, and 2:30pm, a minimum of 2-3 days per week. This position will also support the education activities in the learning spaces when not preparing or delivering a presentation. This seasonal position may continue on a weekend basis (or more to support pre-field trip programs) in September.
Requirements:
Qualifications: Must be an American Cetacean Society certified naturalist or have an education background in marine science/marine mammals that is at a minimum equivalent to that of a certified naturalist. Strong communication and customer service skills. Must be able to field questions from guests related to marine mammals and interact with guests of all ages. A passion for the ocean is required!
Requirements: Must be able to lift 35 pounds, comfortable on boats (no seasickness), reliable transportation, clear and strong voice.
