Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking applicants for one Small Boat Operator II position to provide support on contract to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service Point Adam's Research Station in Hammond, Oregon. OAI provides personnel support services to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. The Small Boat Operator II will assist in boat operations associated with a pair-trawl sampling program conducted in the Columbia River estuary to evaluate the survival of tagged salmon and steelhead passing into the estuary. These will be full-time short-term position for the approximate duration April 1 through June 23, 2018. Work will be mostly 40 hours per week, but may occasionally exceed 40 hours with overtime paid. The work sites are near Jones Beach (river kilometer 75) 12659 Riverfront Rd, Clatskanie, OR and Kerry West Marina, Westport, OR. Pay Salaried position, time-and- half for overtime, plus Service Control Act (SCA) health and welfare supplement of $4.27/hr. Duties Operate NOAA small boats (40 - 65 ft. in length), as required. Maintain vessel float plans, operational logs and research operation records. Perform crew member responsibilities on board vessel in support of projects. Monitors the vessel's status and reports any maintenance requirements as appropriate. Other duties as required, e.g., perform routine maintenance and repairs on vessels, vehicles, trailers and other equipment

Knowledge/Experience/Abilities Required By the Position Applicants must have a valid USCG Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) or higher license. Knowledge of fire fighting and prevention and flood control techniques. Ability to work independently with minimum amount of supervision for extended periods of time. Applicant should be in good physical condition and able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Must have a valid state driver's license. Must have current First Aid/CPR/ and BPP certifications (classes are provided after hire). Minimum one year experience on the commercial or research 40 - 65 ft. or larger vessels. High school diploma or equivalent. Preference given to applicants familiar with operating vessels in the lower Columbia river and estuary.
