Title: Fisheries Technician 1- Tagging Trailer Assistant (18-1054) Location: Lewiston, ID (83501) Anticipated Start Date: September 17, 2018 Position Type: Temporary (6 months or less), Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: No | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $13.00/hour, DOE Job Number: 18-1054 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: September 7, 2018 Position/Project Specifics: The 'Fishery Technician I- Tagging Trailer Assistant' is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of a manual tagging trailer and/ or a mobile Autofish Tagging Trailer. Previous experience working in and operating fish tagging trailers, and experience tagging fish in a hatchery setting is desirable. Duties include: • Assist in operating and maintaining a manual PIT tagging trailer and/ or an Autofish mobile marking trailers, including setup and tear down at hatchery sites througout the state of Idaho for the purpose of marking/ tagging hatchery fish • Manually clipping adipose fins, coded-wire tagging, and/ or PIT tagging various salmonid species • Conduct the disinfection process of the AutoFish trailers, PIT tag trailer, and associated equipment • Operate computers and software programs associated with mobile Autofish trailer • Travel to hatcheries throughout Idaho will require extended overnight stays. • Assist with maintenance of fish including feeding fish, cleaning tanks, establishing feeding schedules, assessing growth, and monitoring fish health. • Collect samples of blood and tissues. • Monitor and maintain facility systems, equipment, and water quality. • Maintain records of data and perform routine analysis. ***This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving records check.*** Essential Functions: • Support captive fish rearing activities including spawning, incubating, feeding, sampling, sorting, handling, medicating, anesthetizing, and transporting fish. Monitor the status of facility systems and equipment. Assist in development, fabrication, construction, and maintenance of systems. • Make regular facility inspections including, for example, dewatering equipment, pumps, flumes, gates, tanks, screens, filters, gatewells, and/or tag interrogation equipment. Monitor and maintain water quality levels. Record findings and adjustments made. Respond appropriately and immediately to emergencies. Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience: • Knowledge of fishery biology • Knowledge of fish husbandry • Knowledge of personal computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail • lift 40-50 lbs. • valid driver's license • tow & maneuver trailers • fish species ID skills Physical Demands: Demands can range from moderate --where there is walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching, lifting, bending, and strenuous sweeping-- to rigorous. In the latter case, the incumbent must be able to handle buckets of water or gear weighing up to 50 pounds. Long daily periods of carrying equipment and/or standing may be required. Overnight travel for extended periods is required. Work Environment: A portion of the work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. The majority is performed in fish processing labs, fish holding areas, and/or in the field. Incumbents may work on narrow, elevated walkways and platforms that are over or adjacent to water.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: A range of experience and education may be presented. At the lower end of the range, candidates must present six months of General Experience* OR one year of education above the high school level that included at least six semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major or at least 24 semester hours of coursework in any combination of scientific or technical courses.
