Description:
The Engineering Technician will maintain oceanographic instruments including day-to-day servicing, repairs, and laboratory and field calibration and installations. They will assemble and repair surface mount electronic circuit and cable assemblies, assemble and configure fluidic, electronic, mechanical, chassis and packaging components into operational underwater or shipboard instruments and data collection/communication systems, and install and maintain instrumentation systems on vessels, buoys, piers, and underwater vehicles.
Requirements:
Education required includes an Electronics Technical Associates Degree, military "C" school training, or equivalent training and a minimum of three years of experience as an engineering technician. Equivalent educational background may substitute. A background in design/fabrication/operation of oceanographic instruments is strongly preferred. Knowledge of optics, glider and mooring/array technologies, telemetry, and C and/or Visual Basic programming is preferred. Research cruise experience is a plus.
