Description:
To facilitate, enhance and integrate the research programs, the broadening participation elements, and partnerships of the Sustainable Ecological Aquaculture Network (SEANET) through the implementation of a five year NSF-funded EPSCoR grant to the University of Maine. The position works as an integral member of the SEANET Operations team, works closely with the Maine EPSCoR Office, and supports the work of the SEANET Management Team and Stewardship Council. Typical hiring range for this position is $40,000 - $43,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Collaborates on management strategies and administrative planning for the SEANET project.
- Oversees day-to-day fiscal management and administration of the SEANET research project, a 5-year, $20M NSF EPSCoR grant.
- Administers the financial and administrative records for SEANET and subsequent grants secured by the project. Works closely with the Maine EPSCoR office’s financial manager to ensure compliance.
- Facilitates communication and provides centralized project management for interdisciplinary research teams and university-stakeholder partnerships.
- Assists in the planning process for seminars and other conferences and meetings to the SEANET project.
- Assists in the identification and development of funding opportunities for SEANET and the Aquaculture Research Institute in order to ensure sustainability of the center.
- Coordinates and facilitates grant proposal submissions to agencies and foundations. Collaborates with the Grant Development Division of the VPR’s office, as appropriate.
- Develops and oversees integrative communications and marketing approaches for SEANET.
- Develops and implements site planning for the SEANET web sites. Oversees site design and maintenance.
- Collaborates on design, editing and publication of a variety of information and educational publications.
- Collaborates with professional service contractors to facilitate the communication efforts of SEANET.
- Other reasonable duties to facilitate the success of SEANET.
- Works effectively and cooperatively with department members, UMaine administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of strategic planning process for set-up and administration of new projects and programs.
- Experience in management and design of creative projects.
- Experience in facilitating interdisciplinary teamwork and university-stakeholder partnerships.
- In-depth knowledge of issues pertaining to aquaculture in Maine.
- Experience with external stakeholders groups with aquaculture interests in Maine.
- Fluency with accounting methods and UM/UMS procedures and policies.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and computer skills.
- Ability to travel normally requiring a valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated experience of working creatively & independently within a team environment, and to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Web design and communications experience.
Supervision Responsibilities: Supervises an administrative assistant and regular staff, graduate, and/or undergraduate students as required by evolving tasks within SEANET.
Evaluation: The schedule for evaluation will be as required by the UMPSA collective bargaining unit.
Work Environment: The position is in support of interdisciplinary SEANET activities dealing with research, outreach and education in solutions-driven sustainability science. This position requires substantial computer skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and interactions with partners and stakeholders. Candidate must have the ability to successfully complete tasks within a dynamic, evolving organization. Some travel will be required.
Work Schedule: Full time, soft-money, fiscal year position. Normal University of Maine business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Work beyond regular hours to include evenings and week-ends may be necessary in order to meet the requirements of the position.
