A non-profit for underserved youth seeks a Leaders Initiative High School Science Education Coordinator in Pacific Beach, CA.
Job Summary: As a Leaders Initiative High School Science Education Coordinator you will serve a critical part of highly collaborative and passionate team to help fulfill the mission and share in the commitment to the youth of our community we serve. Looking for candidates who will coordinate program components and lead high school students in intensive, research-focused after-school and summer programs. These programs take place in San Diego and at a remote field location in Baja California, Mexico. You will engage the students in rigorous and authentic science experiences in order to foster their growth as science and conservation leaders. Responsibilities: Oversee program and strategic enhancement projects. Provide direct instruction for students, both in the classroom and in the field. Develop curriculum and program components that ensure program goals are met. Facilitate program evaluation. Collaborate and coordinate with science and conservation professionals to plan, develop, and implement projects. Collaborate with staff and advisors to design and implement comprehensive programs and services. Because of the organization's size and nature, other duties may be assigned as needed. Qualifications: Command presence. Skilled science educator, with a strong understanding of the scientific/research process. Teaching experience in outdoor locations. Capable project manager. Strong work ethic; thrive under pressure. M.S. or B.S. with 4+ years post-graduation work experience. Fluent in Spanish; proficient written and verbal communication skills. Health conscious and excellent physical condition to work in remote outdoor locations. International travel required. Strong swimming and water skills. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access. CPR and 1st Aid and/or Wilderness First Responder certification preferred (if not, will need to obtain upon hire). Pass a fingerprinting / background check. Have a valid Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and clean driving record. Occasional weekends and evenings are required.
Requirements:
- Must have worked in City Heights or in a similar Community. -4+ years post-graduation work exp; Science Educator in an outdoor setting; plus-single subject credential in Science -Required Fluent in Spanish -Must be health conscious and in excellent physical condition to work in remote outdoor locations. -Unique Remote (not a lot of resources/sleeping on cots outside) Teaching Job; position requires Candidate to spend approx 6-10 weeks in Baja; must have a passport. -Will be partnering with 20+ Scientists; doing field work -Skilled Science Educator; creator of curriculum; -Oversight of a Team -Capable Project Manager -Must have CPR, 1st Aid or Wilderness First Responder Certificate
