We are honored and proud to have received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring given by President Obama. The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration has also recognized that our model is at the vanguard of innovation and impact and has invested in replicating this work in other regions of our nation. In San Diego, we serve 6,000 young people, and are growing to serve over 20,000, each year. We see the difference our work makes in the lives of young people in one of San Diego’s most underserved communities, and we are looking for you to join the team to enable this growth! As the Special Events Manager, you’ll use a collaborative approach to ensure Ocean Discovery Institute’s programmatic and fundraising events are planned and executed with the utmost thoughtfulness, creativity, and precision. You’ll have the opportunity to build upon existing successes and address challenges with innovative ideas. Ocean Discovery Institute events are a critical component of the how we reach our mission. Events are a vehicle to: ? Bring our constituents together and build community ? Demonstrate constituent collective impact ? Garner and celebrate constituent support ? Create memories that build relationships ? Showcase our culture ? Communicate and inspire toward a shared vision ? Build our brand and reputation ? Provide students opportunities for leadership and skill building Ocean Discovery hosts four signature events each year. Three of these are held in the City Heights community in order to ensure access for all of our constituents. Events are achieved through a cross-organizational collaborative approach. Each event is led by our Special Events Manager. The leadership strategy relies upon each department within Ocean Discovery defining their goals for the event and leveraging their abilities to achieve these. Requirements:
Responsibilities: ? Lead a team within the organization to develop and execute event goals. ? Engage volunteers in order to generate ideas and facilitate needed activities. ? Develop detailed implementation agendas, organizational charts, and protocols. ? Develop event messaging goals and oversee the development of communication materials. ? Secure and manage vendors. ? Serve as the primary point of contact for event related matters. ? Solve problems and make decisions in the best interest of the organization as a whole. ? Build in efficiencies when appropriate. ? Manage temporary staff and/or full time volunteer. ? Manage events budgets. ? Participate in fundraising activities as needed to support event costs. ? Provide support for smaller organizational events (as needed and time allows). ? Because of the organization’s size and nature, other duties may be required. Qualifications: ? Strong project manager. ? Strong people manager. ? Thrive under pressure. Other Requirements: ? Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. ?
