Overview of organization: Sound Experience is a non-profit Puget Sound-based environmental and youth leadership organization that uniquely delivers its programs on the 133’ historic wooden schooner Adventuress. On day and overnight programs, Sound Experience serves over 3,000 young people each year, inspiring in them greater understanding of the complexity of our marine ecological systems and stronger commitment to stewardship of a healthy Sound. Our mission: Sound Experience sails the historic schooner Adventuress to educate, inspire and empower an inclusive community to make a different for the future of our marine environment.

Requirements:
Position Qualifications: Requirements: Must have basic CPR and First Aid training, a WA State Food Handler’s permit, pass a drug test, and submit to a background check. Desired Qualifications: Competencies in teaching/facilitating educational programs, specifically environmental education, marine biology, and experiential education. Background/education in sciences, recreation, and/or history. Ideal candidates will have B.A./B.S and teaching certificate. Sailing/boating experience a plus, but not required.
Position Responsibilities: The Educator/Deckhand position delivers the Sound Experience education curriculum and helps to facilitate the experiential models of education aboard Adventuress. Teaching stations can include plankton, marine life, ocean acidification, marine debris, navigation, and sail handling, among others. Educator/Deckhands should have experience relevant to facilitating excellence in environmental education for youth and adults, be enthusiast, self-motivated and mission-oriented.

Dates of employment: We are accepting applications for the 2017 sailing season. Full-time seasonal positions include: Season 1 (mid-March(TBD) - July 4) AND Season 2 (July 6-mid-October (TBD)). We are also accepting volunteer season-long and month-long interns for both of the sailing seasons. Positions are “live-aboard” (shipboard room and board is provided)
