Nova Harvest Ltd is a young, fast-paced business producing high quality shellfish seed stock with the principle focus supporting development of the geoduck and oyster aquaculture industry in British Columbia, Canada. The company is seeking an energetic, career-minded individual to assist with all aspects of shellfish production at its hatchery facility on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island in Bamfield, BC. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, the Hatchery Technician will participate in: • phytoplankton culture • broodstock conditioning and spawning • larval rearing and husbandry • nursery production • equipment cleaning and maintenance • environmental monitoring and record keeping
Requirements:
A degree or diploma in marine biology or aquaculture is preferred but consideration will also be given to applicants with relevant shellfish industry experience. The Hatchery Technician must have experience in a commercial-scale shellfish hatchery and be familiar with shellfish aquaculture equipment and culture systems. The successful candidate must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work well both independently and as part of a team. He/She must also have good communication skills and problem-solving abilities. The position requires an attention to detail and adherence to hatchery protocols. The work-week is 40 hours but the Hatchery Technician must be able to work a flexible schedule as some overtime and weekend work will be required.
