Science Educator Internship
Experium Science Academy is a unique, first-of-its-kind, STEM-based, supplemental education program dedicated to exposing K-12 students to the fundamentals of lab-based research skills in biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering via experiments and hands-on activities. Our curriculum is inquiry-based and uses experiential and constructivist learning techniques.
We are currently seeking college students or recent graduates to assist our instructors in providing a quality, educational, and exciting science experience for our students. The Science Educator Interns will work one-on-one with our instructor staff, all of whom have completed advanced science degrees. Interns will learn how to implement hands-on, age-appropriate activities, organize lesson plans, and work with students. The person we are seeking will be comfortable working with a team of scientists and non-scientists to take complex principles and introduce them to young students in a hands-on manner. We prefer someone who is enthusiastic about science with a goal of passing that passion on to students.
This is an unpaid internship.
Responsibilities:
• Assist instructors during daytime, afterschool, and/or weekend programs
• Work one-on-one with students on experiments/lab activities
• Help with lab prep and clean up
• Help instructors develop and troubleshoot new experiments
• If needed, interns should be prepared to substitute teach a class for an instructor
Requirements:
• Must be a current undergraduate student majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, education, or related field
OR
pursuing a Teaching Credential in either Multiple Subject or Secondary Science Education
OR
pursuing a Teaching Credential in either Multiple Subject or Secondary Science Education
• Must have a strong background in science and experience working with children
• Must be willing to commit a minimum of six hours per week
Date of Internship:
Interns can begin as early as February 3rd. End date tbd with applicant. Our after-school classes run once a week for eight weeks. Upcoming Session:
