Title: Fisheries Biologist 1 - Lower Monumental Dam (18-1126) Location: Kahlotus, WA (99335) Anticipated Start Date: March 1, 2019 Position Type: Seasonal (6+ months but less than 12 months), Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: Yes | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $17.00-$22.00/hour Job Number: 18-1126 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: January 14, 2019 at midnight Expected Start Date: March 1, 2019 Expected End Date: September 30, 2019 Position/Project Specifics: The employee will participate in, and sometimes lead, all sampling and handling of juvenile fish. This sampling will include species composition, weight and length measurements, descaling and injury rate determination, recovery of marked fish, PIT tag database work and Gas Bubble Trauma monitoring. The employee will participate in computer data entry and analysis. This work will include daily entry of sampling and collection data for the Fish Passage Center (FPC). Position Duties: • Identifies, measures, weighs and evaluates fish condition in processing salmonid samples. • Records and maintains accurate data records. Enters, proofs and verifies daily sample data and then sends to Fish Passage Center. • Compiles PIT tag information for Mark/Recaptures and Mortalities and sends PIT tag reports to PTAGIS. • Participates and/or supervises Gas Bubble Trauma Monitoring • Prepares, operates, and maintains laboratory and field equipment. • Helps direct and coordinate Smolt Monitoring Program sampling activities on-site with COE staff and other agencies. • Helps prepare reports for the Smolt Monitoring Program. • Helps with performance planning and evaluations of Scientific Technicians. • Performs essential office, field, and other work as required. ** This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. **
Requirements:
A range of education and experience may be presented. At the lower end of the range, candidates must present successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in biological science. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. **Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
