Title: Fishery Biologist 1- Feather River Hatchery Sampling Programs (19-1112) Location: Oroville, CA (95966) Anticipated Start Date: May 16, 2019 Position Type: Full Year, Full Time, Hourly/Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible: Yes | www.psmfc.org/benefits Salary Target: $16.05-$25.85/hour, DOE Job Number: 19-1112 How to Apply: Online at www.psmfc.org/careers Closing Date: April 28, 2019 at midnight Position/Project Specifics: Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission is seeking 1 motivated individual to assist the Feather River Fisheries Program, operated by the California Department of Water Resources Division of Environmental Services, with the Feather River Hatchery Sampling programs. Biologist will work under the direction of the project manager(s) to implement the sampling protocols for the projects and will be primarily responsible for collecting biotic data associated with the monitoring of lower Feather River salmonid populations. Specific duties include, but are not limited to daily implementation of adult salmonid sampling, during which the incumbent will be handling salmonids and processing samples and organizing and recording data. Incumbent will also be required to manage large data sets, covering all aspects from data collection, entry, qa/qc, to analysis, report writing and presentation of results. Experience conducting salmonid surveys and sampling is desirable, but not necessary. Other skills that are necessary: ability to lift 40-50 lbs, ability to reach, lift, bend, twist, handle and carry equipment, written and oral communication, ability to work closely with others from different backgrounds and agendas in a team environment, safety consciousness, and a positive attitude. Flexibility to help on other Feather River Fisheries field projects on an as needed basis is also a must. ** This position requires a valid driver's license and all offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a driving record check. **


Requirements:

A range of education and experience may be presented. At the lower end of the range, candidates must present successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in biological science with at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects and at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences. An equivalent combination of experience and education is also qualifying. At the upper end of the range, candidates must present one year of Specialized Experience** OR a year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. **Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
