Freestone Environmental Services, Inc. (https://www.gofreestone.com/) a multi-disciplinary consulting firm, is currently seeking to hire a talented individual to serve as an Education Specialist for the Office of Response and Restoration's (ORR - https://response.restoration.noaa.gov/) Marine Debris Program (MDP - https://marinedebris.noaa.gov/), a program within the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Ocean Service. The position is located in Silver Spring, MD. Summary: The candidate will be responsible for assisting and supporting programmatic goals as they relate to the implementation of the MDP's educational initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for producing and managing publications and educational content for the MDP, supporting key initiatives, and coordinating and supporting select working groups. The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating projects/programs and working with science-based curriculum, as well as strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Duties: ? Coordinates a national education strategy for the MDP. ? Works with, and provides support to, MDP staff on education-related projects. ? Provides support, as needed, to partner-led educational projects. ? Reviews all partner-developed curriculum and education materials. ? Develops and maintains a marine debris education portal and all public-facing education materials. ? Participates on the NOAA Education Council supporting the MDP Team Lead. ? Develops and distributes a quarterly educator newsletter. ? Leads special projects related to education. ? Provides lessons to students and presentations. ? Leads annual art contest and calendar. ? Assesses opportunities for incorporating marine debris into educator workshops.


Requirements:

Qualifications: ? Master's degree or Bachelor's degree. ? Excellent written and oral communications skills. ? Experience copy editing documents. ? Experience translating scientific information into plain language and developing engaging content for different audiences. ? Ability to work on your own, as well as collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and within teams. ? Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects, be responsive to deadlines, and shift priorities as needed. ? Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards. ? Experience developing or reviewing lesson plans or curriculum. ? Experience teaching or conducting outreach to audiences of different ages and backgrounds. ? Previous experience working with the Adobe Suite and/or web content software is desired. ? Previous experience advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in education desired. ? Previous experience with virtual outreach desired
