Job Announcement! Shipboard Education Manager Job Location Sausalito, CA Compensation $3,200/month plus room and board on one of our vessels. Who we are: Call of the Sea (callofthesea.org) is an educational sailing non-profit that provides inclusive and equitable access to the waters of San Francisco Bay and the coast of California. Call of the Sea conducts numerous educational programs and public sails including overnight, day, and weeklong trips aboard the 82? schooner Seaward and the 132? brigantine Matthew Turner. Call of the Sea is striving to hire and support motivated staff who share backgrounds and experience with the diverse communities we serve. Our educational programs include: Nautical Science, Marine Science, Oceanography, History, Engineering and Sustainability. What You Will Do: The Shipboard Education Manager coordinates the recruitment, support, training and coaching of Educator/Deckhands, Paid Interns and Volunteers in curriculum, pedagogy and program logistics. This job requires regular attendance in our office and aboard our vessel's based out of Sausalito, CA. Your primary job will be to: ? Supervise up to 15 Educator/Deckhands and numerous Paid Interns and Volunteers. ? Support all crew with coaching and overall supervision, including training, scheduling, and conflict management; observe and provide focused feedback. ? Assist the Education Director in staff development and curriculum design, and stay informed on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and topics such as inquiry-based learning, diversity and equity, and responsible environmental behavior ? Foster a positive and inclusive work community culture, and establish supportive relationships with staff, volunteers, and participants. ? Use the lens of our Equity, Inclusion & Diversity framework to drive personal, professional, and departmental goals. ? Coordinate and collaborate with other departments around administrative support, payroll, and logistics. ? Act as the Day Manager for summer camp and the rotating Manager on Call during programs. ? Substitute for educators in the field. ? Oversee the development of science and stewardship curriculum and lead in training educators in the facilitation of science investigations and data sharing; be in charge of Call of the Sea science equipment Who You Are: We are looking for applicants who: ? Have 2+ years of programming experience in environmental science and camp education, with an emphasis on NGSS, BEETLES/inquiry methodology, and other current trends in science education ? Approach themselves and others with a growth mindset, and have 1+ years of experience on successful and collaborative teams, including coaching experience ? Demonstrate commitment to equity and inclusion in education, and create positive community work culture. We especially encourage you to apply if you have lived experience as a member of (or extensive experience working with people from) any communities that are impacted by the historic and current system of oppression that has limited access to environmental education, or the outdoors in general ? Prioritize relationship-building and professional integrity, and are able to communicate with clarity, compassion, and accuracy ? Value Call of the Sea's mission and the development of environmental literacy through environmental science and ship based education ? Have a valid Driver's License ? Spanish speaking ability a plus *All Call of the Sea Employees are required to be vaccinated and fully boosted against COVID-19. Final shot must occur 15 days or more before the start date.
