Description:

Position Summary: The Metocean Technician focuses on the company's real-time ocean current surveying systems. They take ownership of systems integration, systems development, operating and maintaining the real-time surveying systems, undertaking field operations, and providing operational support. This position is also be encouraged to support the company's broader oceanographic measurement, monitoring, forecasting and analysis services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position requires frequent regional travel to support field operations involving: *Installing, maintaining, and servicing marine data collection systems. *Operating, testing, and maintaining sensors, data loggers, communication systems, and DC power systems. *Performing geodetic surveys for tidal stations including differential leveling, static GPS observations, and RTK surveys. *Performing shop tasks including the repair, painting, and preparation of marine systems. *Preparing written communication with clients and other team members. Including field service reports, equipment inventories, shipping logs, and instrument history logs. *Assisting with in-shop and in-field instrument checkout, testing, troubleshooting, and repair tasks. Preparation of field equipment, packing/shipping of field equipment, tools, and supplies, travel to/from work sites. *Demonstrated teamwork and compatibility with other staff members, customers, site owners, and subcontractor personnel at worksites. *Potential requirement to support field operations out of other Woods Hole Group and CLS Group offices, in the USA and overseas that could involve extended periods of time offshore. *Supporting other staff members and projects. Candidates will be expected to develop skills and advance in capabilities. *Strong focus on undertaking all work activities to high health, safety, security, and environmental standards. *Occasional climbing and working at heights including ladders, catwalks, bridges, and elevated platforms. QUALIFICATIONS: *Associates degree in a marine science based or electronic engineering program required. *Strong interest in the marine environment and weather. *2-5 years of experience in a related field, or similar military experience, preferred. *Experience with computers, interfacing with electronic equipment and Internet tools. Familiarity with a wide range of common computer programs. *Experience in the maintenance and repair of simple mechanical systems. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment (trade skills). Maintains equipment and work areas in an orderly and professional manner. *Writing, record keeping and documentation skills. *Field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods including overnight travel is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. *Travel will be required, up to 30% annually. *Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. *Ability to work independently and professionally in the field and office. *Must be able to follow all Health, Safety & Environmental protocols and complete required documentation as needed.
