JOB OBJECTIVES
Coastal Studies for Girls, a residential science and leadership semester school in Freeport, Maine, is looking for a dynamic Spanish and French teacher to join our experiential, place-based community that creates transformative learning for 10th grade girls. We seek a skilled educator interested in the potential of an interdisciplinary curriculum within a residential semester science and leadership school on the coast of Maine that inspires girls to create joyful lives, vibrant communities, and a more connected world.
The major responsibility of a teacher at CSG is to design and deliver curriculum for three academic classes. Duties include: planning and delivering lessons, individualizing instruction, assessing student learning, working with sending schools, and maintaining class records. This position also involves scheduled student supervision one evening per week and participation in full community events on some weekends. Secondary responsibilities may include administrative leadership over extra-curricular program areas as assigned such as accreditation, facilities support or field trip coordination.
As the prime carriers of our educational philosophy and leadership model, teachers are expected to uphold the highest standards for themselves and their students, to serve as role model and mentor, to have a deep commitment to girls and girls’ education and to embody the CSG mission and philosophy. A positive attitude is also paramount, along with a sense of humor and the ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment. All faculty members are expected to participate fully in the CSG community and maintain an ongoing commitment to team effectiveness. As members of and models in our learning community, teachers are expected to pursue learning and growth opportunities in professional associations, conferences, and classes.
Compensation
The salary for this position is competitive for a part-time 10-month position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

- A passion for inspiring girls to achieve linguistic and cultural competency
- Excellent skills in and experience teaching multi-level French and Spanish courses
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong skills developing and maintaining productive working relationships

- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with students and staff
- Commitment to personal and professional reflection and growth with a supportive faculty and staff
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and deliver curriculum for three academic classes, including lesson planning, instruction, student evaluation, and class record keeping
- Supervision of students during one evening study hall and other non-class hours
- Plan and lead field trips and experiential activities to support the academic class
- Participate in planning and leading activities during Student Orientation, Family & Friends Day, and End of Semester events
- Communicate with sending schools regarding student placement
- Assistance with school promotion and recruitment as needed
- Assist administrative staff on an as-needed basis
- Support the mission of the school by serving as a positive role model during all interaction with CSG community members and affiliates (including actively engaging in CSG’s leadership curriculum through participation, teaching, and modeling/practice)
- Participate in all staff orientation, training and professional development sessions
- Food service as needed
