Position Summary
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and 21st century pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student’s unique talents and passions, and providing diverse opportunities for students to discern and to realize their individual potential through intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual exploration. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of the Province of the West.
This is a 5/5 (100% FTE) position, teaching Science curriculum including preparatory Biology.
Requirements:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian/Vincentian educator;
- Support SHC’s mission, philosophy and ESLRs;
- Facilitate student formulation of and investigation of questions about living things through a variety of labs, STEM activities, research and scientific writing (see http://www.shcp.edu/department/science/);
- In collaboration with Science Department colleagues,
- Design and implement standards-based lessons to facilitate critical thinking and mastery of essential skills and understandings as determined by the Biology learning team;
- Plan and implement what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed in a manner appropriate to the grade level;
- Provide regular and varied assessments of student learning to compile accurate grades and properly determine what and how all students are learning;
- Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces;
- Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;
- Keep current and complete electronic grading and attendance records.
- Work with the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to accommodate students who have learning differences;
- Participate in the cocurricular life of the school.

Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in science;
- Teaching credential or work toward it; single-subject teaching credential in Biology preferred;
- Experience working with high school students;
- Ability to work collaboratively to promote student learning.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Science;
- Experience in a Catholic high school setting;
- Experience as a classroom Science teacher; experience in Biology or Chemistry preferred.
