Description of Work
The person in this position will be responsible for assisting with design, planning and implementation of UNC CSI’s outreach programs including lifelong learning programs, K-12 Programs and summer day camps. This position will be required to work occasionally outdoors and assist with teaching programming both on site at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute and in the field at offsite locations. In addition, the person in this position will be responsible for assisting with web based communications and marketing outreach programs, through the UNC CSI website, and its associated social media. This position will be responsible for presenting age-appropriate programming related to the research and activities of the UNC Coastal Studies Institute to school groups, organizational groups, professionals and the general public.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
This employee must be self-directed and capable of working independently. A high degree of resourcefulness and problem solving skills are necessary. The employee must have good judgment, be knowledgeable about existing programs and procedures and be flexible. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of natural history, environmental and marine education is also required. Interpersonal skills, time management, leadership, research, planning and organizing are additional skills needed for this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements?
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a field of science, education or related field and/or 3 years teaching experience in a natural science field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experienced
Prior experience in a science education (formal or informal) is preferred.
