FOR FULL CONSIDERATION, APPLY BY: June 22, 2018 (position will remain open until July 2 or when filled) This position serves as a formal bridge between Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's (ODFW) Marine Reserves Program and Oregon State University expertise. We seek a post-graduate marine scientist (minimum Master's degree) with a strong foundation of ecological knowledge and the skills and attributes to bring together teams of researchers, including students, to advance approaches for assessing marine ecosystem condition and synthesizing monitoring data into useful products for scientists, managers, and the public. This entry-level position is available for recent graduates who seek to advance their experience in this field. This professional development position is offered through the Marine Studies Initiative at Oregon State University as a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position with up to 18-months of available funding. The OSU-ODFW Marine Science Integration Researcher will work with ODFW's Marine Reserves Program and OSU faculty, staff, and students. They will also work with professors, postdoctoral fellows, students and resource managers in research on ecosystem dynamics of the nearshore ocean. Requirements:
The primary responsibilities for this position include: - operational support to ensure coordinated monitoring and research in and around the marine reserves, including SCUBA surveys; - facilitating communications and transfer of knowledge among a broad network of experts involved in monitoring studies and research relevant to Oregon's marine reserves - performing analyses and creating content for publication and public outreach - contributing to OSU student success through development of opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research in and around Oregon's marine reserves This position would be a good fit for applicants looking to increase their project management and/ or applied research experience, contribute to and lead publication efforts, and gain experience in mentoring students. Furthermore, there is opportunity to generate relevant science communication products and enhance knowledge transfer at the interface of marine science, management and policy.
