Propulsion systems for the vessels range from diesel inboard to outboard gas engines, and the applicant will be expected to have a working knowledge and or technical understanding of survey vessel systems including hydraulics and electronics. If maintenance and repairs are outside of the scope and ability of the vessel staff, the applicant will be responsible for the scheduling the completion of maintenance or repairs from an accepted vendor. The applicant will prepare and maintain forms and records documenting maintenance and repairs on vessels and associated equipment owned by the Department. The applicant will be responsible for the care, maintenance, repair, and security of state vehicle fleet and may assist in the maintenance of other facilities or assets that support the resources surveys. The candidate will be responsible with assisting biological staff with surveys and other duties as necessary. The applicant may also be asked to assist the Divisions in the management and maintenance of their facilities and properties.

A thorough working knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of powered marine vessels; a thorough working knowledge and understanding of marine propulsion and marine auxiliary systems; a thorough working knowledge of the maintenance and operation of inboard and outboard diesel and gasoline powered engines; a thorough working knowledge of marine and US Coast Guard regulations for vessel operation and navigation; a thorough knowledge of all current navigational equipment. The applicant will be expected to manage multiple projects at once, operate independently and work with a diverse group of people toward resource management program goals.
